Dear Sisters, we are mindful that today marks the 10th Anniversary of the Sewol Ferry disaster,

a tragic event where 304 lives were lost, 280 high school students on a school trip to Jeju.

사랑하는 수녀님들, 우리는 오늘 제주도로 수학여행을 가던 고등학생 280명을 포함해

304명이 목숨을 잃은 비극적인 사건 세월호 참사 10주기를 기억합니다.

This anniversary serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the pain of unimaginable

loss that many of their families and loved ones still carry in their hearts. 

이날은 생명의 연약함과 아직도 많은 유가족과 사랑하는 사람들의 가슴에 아로새겨진

상상할 수 없는 상실의 아픔을 상기시켜 주는 슬픈 날입니다.

In the first reading, we hear the words of Stephen as he boldly confronts the religious leaders,

calling them stiff-necked and resistant to the Holy Spirit.

오늘 독서에서 우리는 종교지도자들을 목이 뻣뻣하고 성령을 거역하는 자들이라고 부르면서

그들에게 담대하게 맞서는 스테파노의 말을 듣습니다.

Despite the persecution he faced, Stephen remained steadfast in his faith and committed

to speaking the truth, even in the face of opposition.

스테파노는 박해에도 불구하고 자신의 신앙을 굳건히 지키며 반대에 부딪히면서도 진실을 말하기를 굽히지 않았습니다.

In a ten year long quest for the truth behind the Sewol ferry disaster many of the families

and supporters continue to face obstacles in their quest for truth and justice for their deceased loved ones.

10년이라는 긴 시간 동안 세월호 참사의 감추어진 진실을 밝히기 위해 애써온 많은 유가족과 지지자들은

세상을 떠난 사랑하는 이들을 위한 진실과 정의를 찾는 데에 있어 여전히 여러 장애물들을 마주하고 있습니다.

Life will never be the same for many as their young teenage children were so abruptly taken

from them with no goodbyes, only broken hearts.

10대의 어린 자녀들을 가슴이 찢어지도록, 어떠한 작별 인사도 없이 갑작스럽게 빼앗겨야 했던

많은 이들의 삶은 결코 이전과 같지 않을 것입니다.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus speaks to the crowd about being the bread of life,

the true nourishment that comes down from heaven.

오늘 요한복음에서 예수님께서는 군중에게 하늘에서 내려오는 참된 양식인 생명의 빵에 대해 말씀하십니다.

He invites them to come to him and partake of this bread that will satisfy their deepest hunger.

예수님께서는 그들에게 당신에게로 와서 그들의 가장 깊은 허기를 채워줄 이 빵을 먹으라고 초대하십니다.

In times of tragedy and loss, it is often in our faith and in the presence of the Risen Lord that we find

comfort and sustenance for our souls.

비극과 상실의 때에 우리는 우리의 신앙과 부활하신 주님의 현존 안에서 영혼을 위한 위로와 자양분을 찾게 됩니다.

As we remember the lives lost in the Sewol Ferry disaster, let us also remember the resilience

and strength of those family members and loved ones who have endured unimaginable loss.

세월호 참사로 희생된 이들을 기억하며, 또한 상상할 수 없는 상실감을 감내하는 유가족들과

그들을 사랑했던 이들의 회복을 위해서도 기억합시다.

Let us be like Stephen, unafraid to speak the truth in love and to stand firm in our faith,

even in the midst of tremendous suffering and loss.

스테파노처럼 엄청난 고통과 상실 속에서도 사랑으로 진실을 말하고

믿음 안에 굳건히 서는 것을 두려워하지 않는 사람이 됩시다.

And let us turn to Jesus, the bread of life, who offers us hope

and healing in times of darkness and despair.

그리고 어둠과 절망의 시기에 우리에게 희망과 치유를 주시는 생명의 빵이신 예수님께로 향합시다.

May we hold in prayer today all those affected by the Sewol Ferry disaster,

and may we be instruments of God's peace and comfort in the midst of pain and sorrow. 

오늘 하루 세월호 참사로 상처입은 모든 이들을 위해 기도하며, 우리가 고통과 슬픔 한가운데서도

하느님의 평화와 위로를 전하는 도구가 되기를 빕니다.

Let us go forth with renewed compassion and solidarity, reaching out to those in need

and sharing the light of Christ in the midst of darkness. Amen.

어둠 속에서도 그리스도의 빛을 나누며 나아가도록 합시다. 아멘.
